Mauritius has been adapted from an early 19th century French printed cotton design. The original document from the archive had more components including an odd looking bird and a large cactus plant. The new version has retained the best elements of the original design in a simplified open and graceful composition. It has been painted with a soft watercolour technique to create soft tone work and subtle texture using colours such as antique red coral and ivory.
